iMore has learned that Apple is planning to debut the new iPhone at a special event on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, with the release date to follow 9 days later on Friday, September 21. This information comes from sources who have proven accurate in the past.
The iPad mini will be announced at the same September 12 event, as will the new iPod nano. We haven’t heard a release date for the iPad mini yet, but it could be the same as the iPhone 5. It seems likely the new iPod touch will make an appearance on September 12 as well, though we haven’t heard any specific information about that yet either.
And this puts me in a dilemma. Will I choose the iPad mini or will I choose the next iPhone. My problem is that I am using the iPhone less and less as a phone and more as a mini-computer. And that is where the 7 inch iPad mini kicks in. I also suspect that the next iPhone will be around €700,= unlocked, where the iPad mini will be around €350,=. The only downside, maybe, is that the iPad mini won’t have 3G, but that is not a problem, since I split my voice and data using a MiFi for data connectivity for all my devices on the road.
The only real downside I can think of is that the iPad mini won’t have a GPS- sensor. And it won’t be as sleek as the new iPhone. We’ll see if the date is right and if Apple is delivering on expectations. There will be more than enough time to solve this dilemma.
