iCloud Social Engineering

defend yourself

Gizmodo’s Mat Honan got hacked. Presumably by social engineering the hacker got into his iCloud which was the hub to all his other accounts like Gmail and Twitter. The hacker reset those passwords to gain access to them and wiped all his iDevices. Security can be so good but if the one that is supposed to protect your house opens the door for a burglar you are screwed. Social Engineering is the hardest thing to prevent, especially with easy to guess answers to security questions. But the biggest lesson we can draw from this incident is the prevention of data loss through backups. Good luck Mat! May the Force be with you!
