This is good news for Openflow:
Cisco said it would begin offering OpenFlow support on the Catalyst 3750-X and 3560-X switches primarily for use by university researchers, who have been experimenting with the technology. Now it appears Cisco’s support of OpenFlow will extend to the Catalyst 6500 soon, giving customers end-to-end OpenFlow options in the core and the access layer. Cisco envisions the Catalyst 6500 operating in hybrid mode, running both OpenFlow and traditional networking protocols.
How many 6500’s are out there? Probably a lot, I think it is the most popular, aggregation and datacenter switch. Provided you are using the Supervisor 2T you can start using Openflow now.
