Since I linked to the other two articles in this series I’ll link to this one also, although I am missing the for Network Engineers part.
I have said it before, in this day and age a network engineer needs to have some basic programming or scripting skills. He does not have to be a programmer or developer, that’s a different job with a different responsibility. But I could never do my job without Unix and some scripting languages in my toolbox.
I am sure the series will touch ground with networking again, otherwise and in the meantime, you can start some hands-on training at Codecademy.
